Ready, Set, Boat! Boat Safety tips: 101

Even though you do not need any special permits or licenses to rent a boat in SWFL, you do need a drivers license and must be 25 years of age or older. Part of renting a boat with Amy’s Boat Rental is a briefing and instructions conducted by us, upon every boat rental.

We took the time to create a small list of safety features, so you may enjoy a carefree boat rental in Cape Coral!

Below find a safe boaters’ pre-departure checklist:

  • Boat Plan: Share your planned boating trip with us! It is always useful to let someone know where you plan to be, in the rare case of rescue efforts.
  • GPS Technology: If you have a smartphone, you can download the NAVIONICS application from your app or play store. NAVIONICS is widely used to navigate on the water. This isn’t the only tool you will have of course. All of our boats are equipped with Garmin Marine GPS, depth finders and maps! We are happy to provide orientation and local maps during the initial instructions.
  • Know your passengers: You may want to know if anyone else in your party is able to operate a boat or if anyone is suffering from motion or sea sickness. Know your crew before you depart!
  • Safety Equipment: Each of our boats at Amy’s boat rental is equipped with life jackets, floatation devices and a radio in case of rare emergencies. All of our boats have visible stickers with Sea tow contact information and for questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at amy’s boat rental via info@amy-boat-rental.com

No wake zone advice

Whenever you will rent a boat in SWFL, you will come across no wake zones, or also called idle speed zones. Meant by wakes are simply the waves caused by a boat motor, which you are held responsible for creating. For several reasons, disregarding these no wake / idle zones can not only ruin your day, but can only come at a costly price. Not only is it illegal, it can also cause potential severe consequences.

To enjoy a carefree boat rental experience, please be mindful in cape coral waters!

4 Tips for a fun, carefree boat rental

  1. Review Rental Agreement - Please make sure to review the terms and conditions in your boat rental agreement to avoid any miscommunication. We strive to provide you with the opportunity to experience a fun and unforgettable boat rental experience. Please ask questions as you shop for a boat rental that’s right for you, be sure to inspect the boat and advise of any visible damage on the agreement before you sign.
  2. Choose the right size and location - If you’re unsure about which boat might be the right fit for your boat rental experience, visit our “Our Boats” section in the menu and take a look at different boat styles and sizes.
  3. Research activities and areas - To ensure the best boating experience, research where you want to go before the orientation for your rental boat and what kind of activities you and your passengers might interested in when out on the water. This will help creating a smooth and carefree rental boat experience.
  4. Check weather conditions - we would love to provide you with perfect boating weather every single day, unfortunately this is just one of the things that are out of our control. We advise checking upcoming weather conditions prior to deciding when to rent your boat, however, no matter how far in advance you may be planning to reserve a boat, weather can always turn sour before or during your trip.
